SMART Goals

Before you start writing an ever-growing ‘to do’ list, set SMART Goals for the year. Different than annual activities, SMART Goals give you and your team a shared purpose to work towards. (i.e. Feed 100 more families, expand your after-school programs, send five more kids to camp, sponsor a family to go on a mission trip, Buy a new sound system, etc.)

To help get you started in 2019, our team of experts at Stewardship Technology have complied together our SMART Goals that will help your organization start the year off right.

Follow these SMART Goals as a rule of thumb for setting attainable goals:

Specific

When setting your annual goals, be specific, know exactly what you want to achieve for the year. If your goal is vague, your goal will not be reached.  Have a clear path and know exactly where your organization is headed.

Measurable

Provide a way to evaluate or use metrics to measure your specific goals – think of ways you can measure your success. Your goal should have metrics that can be measured to demonstrate progress.

Common goals are: # of new donors, # of volunteers signed up, $ money raised and # of recurring donations.

Achievable

Dream BIG and think outside the box but reach for goals that you know you can achieve. Your goal should push boundaries but also be realistic to attain.

Relevant

Make sense with your goals and improve your goals in some way.

  • Why do you do what you do?
  • You want something for that year but for what?

Know the answer for what you want and why you know what you want.

Timely

Create a sense of urgency with a start and end date. When will you achieve your goal, be specific on dates and times.

Anyone can set goals, but if it lacks realistic timing, chances are you’re not going to succeed.

Summer Fundraising Ideas that Inspire Giving

In the summer months, spirits are typically high and activities are in full swing, making this time of year ideal for hosting outdoor fundraising events or cause-based campaigns.

You can get your supporters excited about what your nonprofit is working on with these summer fundraising ideas with real-life examples.

Host a Summer-Themed Event

Barbecues, food tastings, and pool parties are fun event ideas, but they won’t inspire giving if they don’t truly resonate with and help to promote your cause. Incorporating fun outdoor activities that align with your campaign mission takes time and creativity, but can be a lot of fun with a very positive outcome when done right!

Launch a Cause-Based Fundraising Event

If you want people to participate in a cause-based event, launching it in the summer is a pretty safe bet that more people will want to attend.

Focus on the causes that your nonprofit are passionate about then take it outdoors. Runs, walks, bake sales, carnivals, etc. and turn those events in cause-based events.
